Once again, reminded to live life to the fullest

Since young, I have this habit of even reading the obituary page in the papers. This habit carries on till now. Yesterday when I was reading the e-Straits Times, I saw an obituary on a young woman, just 48 years old. The name was extremely familiar. Looking at the husband's name, I realised that she was one of my client. I was doing wedding cards at a design house and I did theirs in the early 90s. It was with a heavy heart indeed to learn that someone so young has passed on.

What can I say but to live life to the fullest each day.

Memories …

never fail to flood your mind when packing.

Good old days' report books. The spouse and mine. Loads of cards and letters from friends

Some people like to erase memories. They thrashed all the old things but for me, a sentimental freak, good ones or bad ones, I will keep them. They all make up my life.

...Felt the heat of the sun beating,
Could sense an awe that the past left,
Saw the sheath of life fleeting,
Glimpses of what was there were best

Today is 1 August…

August has never been this good. I am starting my count down. No lah, not for National Day.

Nine days to go before Kai ends his iPSLE. A great soldier, a great conqueror. He has indeed raised a high standard for himself. Three major tests in three months. I think he has reached the saturation point for studying. A learning journey which I hope he will remember for the rest of his life.

28 days to go…an end to my nomadic life, at least for now. The anticipation is something which I cannot describe even using the mighty pen or rather the mighty keyboard. Nice to go back to childhood friends, nice to go back to family's parties which we all dread going (ok, don't bluff lah if you say you have never felt that way). But, I also bring back with me great experiences and great friends whom I have met, whether virtually or physically. Thanks for standing by me.
Probably my last bake…

…for the spouse to bring to his colleagues. They were lamenting that they would no longer have yummy bakes from me.

The next junior master chef?

This time, it's Ann learning from the master chef…I was only the audience

Yummy cranberry cakes. Hot from the oven. After letting them cool, coat with sinful melted chocolate

Oooo, yummy chocolate. I bake, I eat. Finally into the bag. Ann is superb in tying a ribbon!

I think Ann is very natural with baking equipments. A very confident baker, not afraid to dirty her hands. Good job, my princess. Nothing is better than a piece of cake, handmade by yourself. *Wink*
What they did this summer?

Nothing much actually. Been busy sending Kai to school and dragging Ann along. So when they have the time, they just have simple fun…

That's how Kai de-stress from all the studies
What great attitude!

Today when I went to pick Kai up from school, a mum told me that she had actually asked her son not to sit for the iPSLE. After all, he already has a place in year 1 in SSIS. She told him the whole family can just go for holiday and he didn't have to sit for it. But her son (also Kai's friend) insisted on sitting for the exams. He wanted to wrap up his primary school education. It marks a closure to his time in  primary school. I was really impressed.

A while later, I heard two mums also talking about their girls wanting to sit for the exams.
To me, it shows maturity in these kids. Exams? Who wants them. What more, a major one! To these kids, it is not just a paper to help them get into a top school, it is about something which they want to do and must do it to close a chapter in their school life. Kudos to their parents too, who are giving them the fullest support!
Didn't make it but all's well

Remember I told you about Kai flying home to sit for his DSA test. Well, the result was finally out and he didn't make it. He was sad, he was disappointed. Took him a few days to get over it. I know he didn't fail the paper but just that the competition was really stiff. About 2000 applicants and only 400 make it through stage one  which was the paper. Stage two will be the camp. Out of this 400, a final 150 – 170 will be selected for the school. Yes, only the best of the best will make it through. No doubt, it was a good school but it may not be the right school for him. Told him to move on.
He was very serious with the paper and he said he really tried very hard. Yes, I know my son but nothing is lost. Every journey, every experience in life is a lesson learnt. You will only rise up better and stronger.
