A very short trip
So, it was the Golden Week in China, we decided to have a short holiday in Hong Kong (HK). In all our past holidays in HK, we have always avoided staying in the city as we very much preferred the outskirts lifestyle. This time round, we decided to go for a change. We chose to stay in the hearts of the city. One other reason was because we needed to replenish the cod liver oil for the children.
I have always booked our accommodation through reading reviews from the Tripadvisor. It has never failed me. The comments were real, honest and not sugar-coated. This time round, I booked the CHI Residence at Shanghai Street, HK. It was really a great location. Within walking distance to the Temple Street night market, the Ladies' Street night market, Fa Yuen Kai, food streets and all the shopping malls. Do I need anything else? From the airport to CHI, it just took us 20mins to get there. Cab fare HK280. The Airport Express train would cost more and it wouldn't bring us to the hotel. All in all it would cost us about HK450. Sometimes, it is always good to check. The train may not always be cheaper than the cab.
The entrance of the hotel. Actually it is more of a mini service apartment. What is this? The lift shalf. So cool, isn't it?
Once you enter, was the mini kitchen. Fully equipped. On the right was the bathroom
Bedroom and a living room. Very comfortable for 2 adults and 2 kids
Outside the apartment, the hustle and bustle of a Hong Kong street. The surprise….
The street was lined with lots of shops selling baking/cooking wares. I was the happiest of all and guess what I bought…
An old weighing scales…something fun for the kids
Just five minutes walk, the food street
The colourful streets of Hong Kong
Ondeh-ondeh? No, not the norm…it was filled with durian! Never miss the food of Hong Kong!!!
When you have kids going to Hong Kong with you, it cannot be just food and shopping. You must always include some other activities. The Hong Kong Museum of History is an interesting place both for the adults and children.
Descending into His –Story
The early Hong Kongers, the boat people. Peng-Cai was already existing in the past. It was a big dish shared among many people. Now, this poor man dish has become an expensive dish for the Chinese New Year. How ironical!
Do you know what this is? This is a mountain of paos (buns).
This is how they look like. It is a kind of festival called the Cheung Chau Bun Festival
Outside an old house. Inside an old bus. Driving the old bus
The spouse is very interested in anything historical. This is an old pawnshop
The old postal office and all the PO boxes. I think red is nicer than silver, agree?
Old provision shop and tea shop
A tailor shop….a Woon tailor shop? That's my surname up there.
Typewriter and that must be a quarter for workers.
Look at how they store their utensils and that was how the kitchen looked like in the past
Outside a cinema, "buying tickets for a movie". Do you remember that clock. Looked like the one hanging at the Golden City cinema in Queenstown
Before the movie, must buy titbits. Oh, I so love that old fridge
After movie, supper time of course! I still see some of the tea houses in HK using these seats
So nostalgic. That was an old calendar. The date was 23 April 1966. I was still in my mum's tummy!
From the past, we went to the present. The Hong Kong Science Museum. This was very exciting for the kids as there were lots of hands-on activities.
Now who's on TV?
These are my favourites
